Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center (VBPC) is a 100-bed freestanding psychiatric hospital located near the beautiful resort area of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a short 10-minute drive to the ocean front. VBPC offers acute psychiatric and substance abuse services for adults 18 years and older. The hospital is accessible 24 hours a day for admissions, and includes mental health assessments and an excellent referral network. Treatment programs and specialty services at VBPC include substance abuse, dual diagnosis and partial hospitalization.

POSITION SUMMARY

Develops standardized facility procedures for the maintenance, storage, handling, transfer, release and destruction of patient records in accordance with state, federal, Jt. Commission and other licensing and regulatory guidelines as well as development, implementation and maintenance of the organization’s policies covering the privacy of, and access to patient health information in compliance with federal and state laws and the healthcare organizations information privacy practices.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduation from a medical records program preferred; high school graduate or equivalent required.

  • RHIT, RHIA and/or CCS preferred.

  • Must possess knowledge of health information technology and health care delivery; health care laws and its requirements; Jt. Commission, Medicare and other regulatory record requirements; information systems and healthcare applications along with good oral and written communication skills

  • At least one (1) year healthcare management/medical records experience preferred. At least 1 year of behavioral health hospital experience preferred.

  • Acute and out patient coding for behavioral health a plus
