The ETF Capital Markets team is responsible for growing and protecting the trading of the APAC iShares ETF product suite. We are passionate about leading all aspects of primary and secondary market ETF trading. The team seeks to identify and mitigate trading frictions that could impact the market quality of iShares products. In addition, Global Markets works alongside ETF market participants, such as liquidity providers, exchanges and regulators to strengthen and advance the ETF trading ecosystem.

Role Aim/Purpose:

As part of the regional APAC ETF capital markets team, you will be the ETF markets specialist for funds domiciled in Australia. You will be responsible for oversight and development of the Australia ETF market ecosystem, including the primary and secondary market trading, and managing the relationships with market makers, authorized participants, brokers, exchanges and trading platform.

This role provides an opportunity to be a key player in a strategic and dynamic team with exposure to a wide variety of new product and business innovation, leveraging the expertise of the world’s largest ETF provider.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the markets expert for the Australia ETF trading ecosystem: Follow market developments and the flow of capital in the Australian ETF market to provide trading insights, drive platform improvements and make economic impact.

  • Authorized Participant & Market Maker Engagement: Enhance relationships with authorized participants, market makers, broker dealers and other core counterparties within the ETF ecosystem to improve the market quality of our ETFs & to help promote distribution to existing and potential new clients.

  • Client Education: Provide insights into iShares ETF trading and liquidity including execution support for large/complex orders. This may include written content and presentations at industry/client events.

  • Process Improvements: Drive innovation projects on the Australian iShares range, working alongside internal and external partner teams to reduce trading frictions, minimise operational risk and enhance the relative competitive positioning.

  • Primary Market Coverage: Lead the oversight of primary market activities (creations/redemptions) between APs, Portfolio Management, Trading & Post Trade Service Providers to implement solutions that develop the iShares ETF platform to be best-in-class.

  • Secondary Market Ecosystem: Monitor ETF secondary market trading landscape to gather market intelligence and identify opportunities for market quality improvements of existing products, drive advancement and innovation within the ETF ecosystem, inclusive of new products, improvements in market structure, and infrastructure enhancements.

The Australia Capital Markets specialist is an ETF markets subject matter expert, who will work closely with regional & global stakeholders and partner groups to grow the Australia iShares franchise.

Experience, Skills & Knowledge Required:

  • 7 years+ relevant experience in financial markets (asset management or investment banking).

  • Strong background / knowledge in the equity and fixed income market, preferably gained through a trading or sales role.

  • A high level of initiative and ability to work under pressure and be comfortable taking primary responsibility for deliverables assigned.

  • In-depth understanding of ETFs and related products (futures, swaps, options, managed funds) from a structure and regulatory perspective.

  • Strong financial analysis skills with a passion/interest for the equity and fixed income markets and financial instruments.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including being comfortable presenting to clients or senior management.

  • Strong relationship management skills with both internal and external partners to deliver results.

  • Ability to engage proactively with traders and equity desks and “speak their language”.

  • Proven ability to simplify complex investment ideas into a format applicable for relevant audiences.
