nVent Sr. Product Development Engineer in Solon, Ohio

WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IN THIS POSITION:

  • Propose, design, develop, and lead the commercialization and introduction of new nVent CADDY and LENTON products for worldwide markets.

  • Work with sales, product management, and end-user customers to generate new product ideas.

  • Prepare project plans including scope, timeline, and resources. Track and report the status of projects using the nVent 3D stage gate process.

  • Complete product designs, check and approve drawings, and prepare financial justifications for capital expenditures.

  • Prepare material, component, and product specifications. Participate in the preparation of quality assurance procedures.

  • Verify designs, create and test prototypes. Assist in third party testing and conformance.

  • Build prototypes in a state-of-the-art engineering lab, complete with metal-working equipment and 3D metal and plastic printers

  • Participate in new product introduction activities.

  • May participate on industry committees and standards working groups

YOU HAVE:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering from a 4-year ABET accredited institution

  • Ideally 7+ years of post-graduate experience with a manufacturing company

  • Previous experience in or with product design

  • A proven track record of successful product designs

  • Listed as key or co-inventor on utility patents with the USPTO preferred (not a requirement)

SKILLS:

  • Skilled user of SolidWorks 2020 with the ability to create solid models of new designs

  • Skilled at effective communications at both technical and leadership levels. Skills must include excellent interpersonal skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills, and ability to understand information and ideas as presented.

  • Ability to build and maintain effective work relationships, both internal and external, and establish credibility with business partners.

  • Positive team attitude.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to operate metal-working equipment a plus

  • Abilities to meet the physical and environmental demands

  • Much of the work will be in a normal office environment.

  • There will also be time spent in the engineering labs prototyping new designs and performing or witnessing product testing.

  • The ability to clearly and comfortably view, interpret and process information via a computer monitor for extended periods of time during normal working hours is required.

  • Some assignments may require domestic or overseas travel to tour jobsites and meet with end-user customers, or to a supplier’s facility for an extended period (up to one week)
