Job SummaryA global leader driving accounting process harmonization and improvement, monitoring of accounting operations, design of internal controls (Sarbanes-Oxley), and various finance technology initiatives. This role partners closely with the Chief Accounting Officer, regional Controllers, finance shared service teams, and the information technology team.Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:Defines optimal accounting methods and processes which maximize leverage of technology and enable an accelerated monthly closing schedule. Works directly with regional and centralized accounting teams to drive the adoption of global accounting methods and monthly calendar.Develops and helps lead the implementation of operations-focused accounting policies and consistent methods for management estimates produced by regional and centralized accounting teams.Develops and leads projects to migrate specific accounting processes and workload to global accounting centers of excellence. Works closely with regional Controllers and accounting teams to successfully migrate these items without disruption to the internal control environment.Identifies and monitors key quality metrics for the global accounting operations according to the Avantor Business System (ABS) and participates in the development of action plans to improve performance.Presents monthly reporting for operations accounting topics and financial statement balances to the CFO and accounting leadership team.Develops and approves changes in the design of internal controls (SOX), communicates internal control changes to accounting teams, and monitors themes in internal control findings and the overall status of remediation efforts. Stays closely connected with the Internal Audit team, who coordinates and performs internal control walkthroughs and effectiveness testing.Works closely with the Chief Accounting Officer to ensure the successful first audit of internal controls under SOX in 2020.Participates in accounting due diligence and the integration of acquired companies.May directly participate in and help to coordinate the accounting team’s involvement in technology projects. Works closely with the information technology team to develop more efficient and effective ways of gathering critical data for teams to apply in accounting and reporting processes.Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting10+ years of professional experiencePrevious experience in operations accounting/controllership is an important considerationCPA requiredKnowledge Skills and Abilities:Strong knowledge of US GAAPSignificant experience with ERP systems, SAP a plusProficient with Microsoft Office Applications – Word, Excel, PowerPointGood problem solving, organizational, and communication skillsComfortable presenting topics to senior leadershipGood project management skills (defines targets, monitors and reports progress, strong closure)Promotes a collaborative atmosphere and styleWorking Conditions:Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.Ability to travel up to 10%, but is expected to be minimal.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting

  • 10+ years of professional experience

  • Previous experience in operations accounting/controllership is an important consideration

  • CPA required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP

  • Significant experience with ERP systems, SAP a plus

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Good problem solving, organizational, and communication skills

  • Comfortable presenting topics to senior leadership

  • Good project management skills (defines targets, monitors and reports progress, strong closure)
