Bio-Techne Automation Technician in Devens, Massachusetts

Bio-Techne’s Diagnostic Reagents Division has been providing essential products to the in vitro diagnostics industry for over 40 years. We supply quality controls and reagents for clinical laboratory and point-of-care testing, along with custom products to other companies serving the IVD market.

The Automation Technician is responsible for installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of automation systems for manufacturing. In this role you will troubleshoot and repair existing equipment, install and configure new equipment and systems and perform preventative maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and replace automation systems for manufacturing and packaging equipment.

  • Troubleshoot automation components, including sensors, servo motors, robotics, camera systems, and other instrumentation.

  • Work with equipment manufacturers’ service technicians on repairs, preventative maintenance, and appropriate spare parts stocking.

  • Support as needed routine and non-routine maintenance of mechanical systems.

  • Ensure adequate spare parts for automated systems to avoid downtime.

  • Assist Mfg Engineering in the design or modification of equipment.

  • Train new or existing personnel in set-up, operation and troubleshooting of automated equipment.

  • Work closely with Mfg leaders to create new equipment-related procedures and the modification/streamlining of existing procedures.

  • Maintain good housekeeping and safety requirements.

  • Initiate Engineering Change Order and applicable documents as required.

  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Handbook, SOPs and SWIs and as well as follows guidelines regarding safety as outlined in the safety program and in accordance to the job function.

  • Willingness to accept changes in work from day-to-day within reasonable and expected boundaries.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or completion of an automation/robotics certification program preferred.

  • Proficient in operating and troubleshooting of PLCs and automation systems.

  • Practical work experience preferred in the following areas: low voltage (control) wiring, schematics, pneumatics, robotics, hydraulics, troubleshooting.

  • Ability to use design software (CAD), Microsoft office including Word and Excel. Proficient in reading and interpreting technical diagrams.

  • Experience with robotic programming.

  • Knowledge of GMP and ISO regulations are preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail with good interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Must be capable of working effectively in a team environment with co-workers and management within the organization.

Minimum Physical Requirements:

  • Walk, stand, and move for prolonged periods in a workday.

  • Reach up and out with hands and arms.

  • Repetitive motion; hands, arms.

  • Lift up to 50 pounds and carry a distance of 10 feet.

  • Use hands to grasp, hold, move and pickup objects continuously.

  • Ability to stoop or kneel.

  • Ability to climb ladders < 5’ high.

  • Occasionally push/ pull up to 200 lbs a distance of up to 100 feet.

  • Able to spend time in cleanroom, freezer and areas of increased noise level.
