POSITION DETAILS

Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty-three colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education.

Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community, currently enrolling 7,000 students in degree programs. Students represent 105 countries around the world! MEC students obtain Associate degrees in 8 fields, and Baccalaureate degrees in 18 fields. They are instructed by over 208 Full-time dedicated faculty members who must maintain a portfolio of scholarship and research. To meet the needs of its students, the College offers courses and programs at various times, is growing their online program offerings, and in offsite locations. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research.

Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Admissions Coordinator will assist with the College's outreach and recruitment efforts for student veterans. The Admissions Coordinator provides information and referrals to prospective and enrolled veteran students regarding Medgar Evers College's resources and campus support services for academic, career, and social matters. He/she is charged with forming collaborative relationships with Veterans agencies, community based organizations, high school, churches and community colleges personnel in order to recruit students.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Support the development and implementation of an outreach and recruitment plan for veterans

  • Process Veteran student benefits every semester.

  • Process applicant information, maintain and ensure students record on CUNY First database is current

  • Coordinate all Veteran Affairs related student activities including workshops and orientations.

  • Advise prospective and admitted students regarding admissions, and related enrollment activities including but not limited to testing, residency, and Immunization.

  • Provide assistance with the coordination of the admissions and registration process for entering and admitted students.

  • Prepare reports outlining activities performed and progress of those activities

  • Assist in planning on campus events including open houses, new students Information sessions, and other recruitment activities.

-Conduct campus tours to prospective students, parent and other constituents. Present at College Fairs and Community events

  • Responsible for veteran student communication through Hobsons Connect.

  • Maintain current recruitment materials for veterans students

  • Collect and compile data related to veteran students to quantify outcomes to recommend improvements about services delivered to the veteran student population.

  • Attend CUNY Counsel for Veterans Affairs, COVA meetings

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Two (2) years of experience working with veteran's outreach is preferred.

-Knowledgeable on GOarmy, VAOnce, and MYCAA

-Work experience in a higher education environment is desirable.

-Good organizational, communication, and computer skills are essential.

-Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

-Demonstrated ability to work as a team player; must be able to work with students of varied backgrounds and show patience and prudence in these interactions.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Coordinates efforts of admissions and/or enrollment offices.

  • Coordinates workshops, intake screenings, interviews and orientations for new students

  • Counsels prospective applicants on requirements and standards and provides general information on programs and services in person or by telephone, e-mail or letter; conducts follow up as needed

  • Assists in conducting open house sessions and orientations, including group sessions and programs at high schools and in the community at large

  • Assists with day-to-day administration and an admissions or enrollment office, including scheduling and preparing and distributing materials

  • Represents the Admission Office to the college's internal and external communities as directed

  • Maintains and updates program databases, lists and files to ensure completeness and accuracy

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience.

$57,717-$68,245
