Academic Program Specialist - Children and Youth Studies Program

POSITION DETAILS

Brooklyn College is soliciting applications for an Academic Program Specialist for the Children & Youth Studies program. Reporting to the Director, the Academic Program Specialist provides the academic and administrative support for the program.

Children & Youth Studies is an interdisciplinary program within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Our courses focus on contemporary issues affecting children and youth within the context of the family, school, peer groups, and community as well as a national and global perspective.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Program Specialist’s duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain administrative responsibility for supporting the development of the Children and Youth Studies curriculum.

  • Manage outreach initiatives to students within Brooklyn College and outside at CUNY senior and community colleges.

  • Advise and provide student support consistent with guiding students along a timely path to graduation and in relation to prospective career pathways.

  • Coordinate workshops and other co-curricular activities designed to enhance and promote student development and success in their academic endeavors.

  • Supervise college assistants, federal work study students, and other staff.

  • Provide assistance to the director with hiring, oversight and the work of adjunct faculty.

  • Develop and maintain systems to maximize department organization and efficiency for faculty, staff, students and alumni.

  • Track department budgets, order supplies, process invoices and related paperwork.

  • Manage department records (e.g. course evaluations) and prepare department reports.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with and training within the field of Children & Youth Studies or relevant discipline.

  • Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Familiarity with CUNY

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • CUNYfirst experience preferred

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.

  • Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.

  • Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings

  • Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management

  • Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services

  • Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures

  • Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials

  • May supervise office operations and/or department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

$56,447 - $68,004; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
