University at Albany Emergency Preparedness Coordinator in Albany, New York

Reporting to the Chief Enterprise Risk Management & Compliance Officer, the University's Emergency Preparedness Coordinator implements risk-based planning and training to enhance the University's emergency preparedness and ability to mitigate risks with the goal of ensuring business continuity.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with campus departments to assess and address specific emergency risks and vulnerabilities to enable the institution to improve operational resiliency.

  • Prepare policies and procedures, including the University's Emergency Management Plan, to promote emergency prevention and risk mitigation.

  • As a member of the Office of Enterprise Risk Management & Compliance team, advance the university's enterprise risk management strategy by completing business impact analyses, risk assessments, and the creation and maintenance of business continuity plans.

  • Plan for and support efficient communications to the University community during an active situation.

  • Support the University President, Vice President for Finance and Administration, Associate Vice President for Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance, and/or designated Incident Commander in incident response situations as directed.

  • Work with University offices to develop specific risk mitigation plans for events on campus.

  • Develop and implement an emergency management training and exercise/drill program that prepares University personnel for effective response to and recovery from emergencies of varying scale and complexity.

  • Develop and maintain productive working and cooperative relationships with community emergency management partners at local, county, and state levels to enhance the institution's overall emergency response and recovery capabilities.

  • Position may require work nights, weekends, and holidays during emergencies or special events and is considered essential personnel.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization

  • 2 or more years of professional, progressively responsible experience in implementing a risk-based approach to enhancing institutional preparedness within the framework of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS).

  • Completion of and demonstrated proficiency in IS-100.c, IS-200.c, IS-700.b, IS-800.d.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to work on multiple concurrent projects toward deadlines and problem-solve.

  • New York State Driver's License, or equivalent.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Emergency Management, Disaster Preparedness, Business Administration, Public Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • 3 or more years of experience in development and implementation of business continuity and disaster recovery planning.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing risk assessment and mitigation policies/procedures.

  • Certification in emergency management and/or business continuity (i.e., AEM, CEM).

  • Experience working in a higher education setting.

    Additional Information:

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Staff Associate, SL4; $80,000-85,000.
