The Role: Industry Forecasting Analyst

The Team:

S&P Global Market Intelligence integrates news, comprehensive market and sector-specific data, and analytics into a variety of tools to help track performance, generate alpha, identify investment ideas, understand competitive and industry dynamics, perform valuation, and assess credit risk.

The Technology, Media and Telecommunications analyst team within S&P Global Market Intelligence is developing a market forecasting platform to drive product development and delivery. The forecasting analyst will coordinate the development of a methodology for forecasting market segments. that leverages economic indicators, survey data and proprietary spending and market forecasts to support the company’s portfolio of market intelligence products and services.

The forecasting analyst would also have opportunities to work on custom projects that span the breadth of the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications market and incorporate a variety of market analyses. The Technology, Media and Telecommunications analyst team fosters innovation, encouraging all team members to bring new elements and methodological approaches to the forecasting function.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize and develop processes to disaggregate total IT spending forecast into segment-level technology spending forecasts.

  • Collect and synthesize economic and forecast data to support IT spending forecast disaggregation.

  • Conduct econometric modeling to test and validate relationships between market, survey, and economic data.

  • Develop a forecast methodology by segment that integrates and weights each forecast supporting dataset appropriately.

  • Work with the TMT engineering team to embed forecast assumptions into a market forecast platform for automated product update and delivery.

  • Perform regular quality assurance checks on segment forecasts leveraging custom-built analytical tools and input from the broader TMT analyst team.

  • Assist TMT analysts in capturing and validating company-specific metrics to generate supply-side segment forecasts that will serve as validation of disaggregated sector-level IT spending forecasts.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree or master’s in mathematics or statistics.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.

  • Familiarity with company financial statements.

  • Strong analytical skills and a working knowledge of SQL.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

  • Proactive with attention to detail.

  • A problem solver.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
